Face your Fears

No Fear of Man

If God is for you, who in the world could ever be against you (Romans 8:31)? The answer, of course, is no one, which was the Apostle Paul’s point. The author of Hebrews wrote, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me” (Hebrews 13:6). If your Helper is the Lord, what do you have to fear? You have all the help you will ever need in life.

The Lord’s on Your Side

The psalmist gladly writes, “In God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me?” (Psalm 56:11), meaning that he trusts in God so he doesn’t worry about what anyone can do to him. Is your faith that strong? Is mine? If we know God, then He promises to never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:4). Don’t trust your feelings–trust God’s Word, for that is surer than anything we could ever feel.

Fearing God

Ironically, the person who fears God has no fear of man, at least they should anyway. The Apostle Paul told Timothy that “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7). A sound mind and the power of God are great weapons against the fear of man or the fear of wicked spirits in high places. The wisdom of fearing God is useful for when we are tempted to fear man.

Strengthening the Trembling Hands

When we are afraid, our heart rate zooms, our adrenaline soars, and we might even begin sweating. When this happens, recall the encouraging words that God gave to Isaiah: “Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10).

Conclusion

If you still battle with the fear of man or the fear of the circumstances you find yourself in, read the Apostle John’s wise words from 1 John 4:18, where he wrote, “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.” Just as Woodrow Kroll says, “With the power of God within us, we need never fear the powers around us” because we are more than conquerors in Jesus Christ (Romans 8:37).

“May we explore together the territory of knowledge;

May we learn together the mysteries of truth;

May we share together the experience of beauty;

May we release in each other the spark of creativity;

May we always remember that You,

the author of all knowledge, Yourself

goodness, Truth and Beauty,

delight to share all experience with us.”
