What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you
~1 Corinthians 6:19a KJV
There is great value placed on the vessels of earth spoken of in 2 Corinthians: our physical bodies! God earnestly desires to reconcile us, mind, body, and soul to Himself; while Satan lusts for our souls, seeking to embody the flesh of man that he may legally execute his sinister plans of destruction, and ultimately to rule the earth. Though he is a pathetic caricature in God’s eternal plan, he still poses a ferocious threat to the naive and ignorant.
Satan craves the worship due God, and he has, since his fall, been in quest of such worship. He deceived man into forfeiting his earthly dominion to him, but he still lacks the physical connection necessary to connect with man and garner his worship, so he goes about seeking to indwell the bodies of man! Consider Redemption: in keeping with His perfect Law, God became flesh, then violently sacrificed that sinless flesh to redeem those who would accept this act of Grace, through faith!
The unregenerate man is, at best, an empty life bringing attention and glory to the deceiver. His default state is a state of rebellion, through independence from God. In refusing to be reconciled by the benevolence shown through Christ’s crucifixion, he displays the wicked ambition of every man, success without God. This is the passive unregenerate soul. Then there are those of whom Satan has procured legal rights to indwell! These “possessions” are gained through, sorcery, curses, or substance abuse, promiscuity, and other rebellious acts of sin. Possession gives Satan authority to physically rearrange things, physically perverting the Truth, while torturously destroying a body!
Once forgiven and born again, your body becomes a temple of the Holy Spirit! Our bodies must be cared for and respected, as they are akin to highly authoritative Badges! It is our body that gives us the right to display the Living God in a manner recognizable to man, and spirit alike. When we’re in Christ’s righteousness, all the forces of darkness take notice and back away! Yes, we are Ambassadors of Jesus Christ!
